Sometimes you know just by the trailer that a film is going to be brilliant and this was certainly true of ‘Me Before You’, an adaptation of the book by Jojo Moyes which I hadn’t read.
Brief outline is………Rich, beautiful, vibrant man suffers life-changing injuries and needs someone to keep him company in his new and alien situation.
From the first scenes, the personality of leading character Louisa Clark (played by Emilia Clark) shone. Her quirky dress sense and beautiful heart made me fall in love with her immediately. She is full of potential but trapped by loyalty to her struggling family. Clearly wanting to spread her wings yet things have always got in the way. Not that she ever complains. She is the most lovable person and seems to put the whole of the world before herself.
Will Traynor (played by Sam Claflin) on the other hand is bitter. His life has been irrevocably changed and he hates it, taking it out on the people nearest him. Having to live half a life just isn’t an option for him. He promises his parents a last 6 months but has plans to end his own life at Dignitas.
The chemistry between the two seemlessly moves from icy cold to smoulderingly hot, as Louisa aims to show him that life is still worth living.
This film is set in Pembrokeshire in Wales and really is stunningly beautiful and makes a fitting backdrop to what is a very emotionally charged movie. And Louisa’s style plays a huge part too, a never ending supply of Irregular Choice shoes had my mouth watering along with her wonderful array of colourful tights.
I’m not going to tell you the whole story…..Suffice it to say that this film is very emotional in many different ways. I loved every part of it. It left me asking myself lots of questions…
